Mission Statement
The CCCAA is a non-profit membership organization that is dedicated to the conservation of land and natural resources and to the preservation of historic sites within the context of sustainable economic growth. Its commitment is to promote understanding and learning that engages and benefits all members of the Cavendish/Proctorsville community, now and in the future.

Grassroots Communities
CCCAA believes that our focus on conservation provides a critical balance to Cavendish during this time of increased development pressure. Situated only a few hours from large population densities, Vermont is changing rapidly as farm and forest lands throughout the state are being converted to non-agricultural uses at an unprecedented rate.

We are particularly concerned about flat, open lands most valuable for agriculture as they are also most suitable for housing, industry and retail uses. We are just as concerned with fragmentation of forests, which negatively impacts wildlife habitats, water quality, ecosystem processes, the timber industry, viewsheds and access to land for recreation.

National Geographic Traveler recently rated Vermont as one of the top unspoiled destinations in the world, along with Norwegian fjords and the Swiss Alps. Shortly after that release, the National Trust for Historic Preservation declared Vermont one of America’s most endangered places. Vermont loses a square mile of critical habitat and 6,500 acres to development every year.

Throughout Vermont groups like Concerned Cavendish Citizens are coming together to educate themselves and their communities about the value of our heritage, alternative enterprises for land-owners and ways to support the working landscape. We are excited about the important work before us and we ask for your continuing interest and support.

Projects and Plans
In accordance with the CCCA Vision and Mission Statements, the organization has worked closely with many citizens and town officials on land use issues and with the Cavendish Historical Society on historic preservations and similar projects. The CCCA Board and members believe that Cavendish can preserve its rural character and still pursue economic and social progress.

None of this is possible without the volunteer efforts of citizen members who are willing to give some of their time and talent to the process. CCCA has no employees and no hierarchy other than the directing efforts of the Board members, all of whom are Cavendish citizens who are concerned with the future of our town. Members can give whatever time they can afford and can help on whatever issue concerns them the most.

Some Cavendish property owners live in other towns and states, but are still deeply interested in the issues and projects espoused by CCCA. These individuals are still welcome to join and they can contribute to CCCA efforts through cash donations anytime.
