About
The Cavendish Community Fund
Who We Are
The Cavendish Community Fund is administered by the Cavendish Community
and Conservation Association, an exempt organization that is committed
to promoting understanding and learning that engages and benefits all
members of the Cavendish, Vermont community. The Fund is committed
to preserving a vibrant rural community that supports its human and
natural resources, building a legacy of health, integrity and vitality
for future generations. The Fund supports this commitment through the
administration of modest monetary grants for programs that add significant
educational or cultural value to the quality of life in Cavendish.
The Board of Directors of the Cavendish Community and Conservation
Association are all Cavendish, Vermont citizens and residents. The
Fund administrators, who select qualified grantees, are also Cavendish
citizens and residents and are not affiliated with the CCCA or its
Board. What We Do
By granting modest sums, the Cavendish Community Fund seeks to assist
local organizations concerned with the needs and quality of life in
Cavendish. The projects, programs or events that the Fund will
consider are those
that deal with education in its broadest sense and can include such
areas as land preservation and development, historic preservation,
ecology
and the natural world, promotion of the arts, and so forth.
The types
of projects, programs or events that the Cavendish Community Fund
will consider for grants are wide ranging and include special
initiatives, seed money for pilot projects or new organizations,
capital funds, and
matching and challenge grants. The Fund will not normally consider
funding an organization’s ongoing operations.
How We Do It
The Fund will accept applications from private, non-profit organizations
that are tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue
Code, other not for profit organizations, public institutions,
or individuals. The Fund will consider project, program or event
eligibility
on a case
by case basis, but considers use of the money as a more important
determinant of an award than the legal status of the applicant.
The organization
and the project, program or event to be funded must be located
in the Town of Cavendish, Vermont. The Fund will award grants
semi-annually
and the Fund will only accept one application from any organization
for
any grant period.
The fund highly encourages collaborative efforts amongst various
groups and organizations (which include at least one Cavendish
group or organization)
for an event, project or program that will enjoy broad community
support and that will positively impact the quality of life within
the community
of Cavendish, Vermont.
In making grant decisions,
the Fund will look to the accomplishments of the applicant organization
and the strengths
of its leadership.
Grant size will depend on many factors such as the annual amount
of money available
to distribute, the quality and number of applications received,
the amount of money requested and the nature of the projects,
programs or events
for which funding is sought. Although the Fund places no limit
on
the amount that an applicant may request, most awards will be
within the
$500 to $1,000 range. Grants will rarely exceed these amounts
although, on occasion, the Fund may make an exceptional grant to a
particularly
worthwhile project.
The Fund will not provide support for efforts such as endowment
campaigns; sporting activities; individual projects, fellowships
or scholarships;
summer camps or day care facilities; or programs run by profit
making ventures, businesses or organizations.
Grant money comes
from annual and periodic donations and from fund raising events sponsored
by the Fund and by the CCCA. The
Fund
is not endowed
and operates from annual revenues received as donations.
The
Cavendish Community Fund is affiliated with the Cavendish Community
and Conservation Association, a Section 501(c)(3)
federally tax-exempt
non profit membership organization chartered under the laws
of the State of Vermont. All donations to the Fund are tax
deductible.
